Things To Do on your Cape Town Holiday

Activities and Attractions in Cape Town

Cape Town abounds with tourist attractions and activities to choose from, and our guests struggle to fit them all in, whether they’re here for a few days or a few weeks. So we’ve included a few of our favourite activities to enjoy when you stay in Cape Town:

Table Mountain

The iconic Table Mountain, recently named one of the 7 New Wonders of Nature - can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways. View it from a distance in all its majestic glory by taking a stroll on our very own Sunset Beach, or any of the other beaches along the Blouberg coastline, hike one of the many trails that will lead you to the top, or take the Cable Car. Refreshments and light meals are available at the top from the Table Mountain Café.

Robben Island

Every year thousands of visitors flock to Robben Island off the Cape Town coast to see where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner. Guided tours are available on most days, and access to the island is via a ferry that leaves from the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Touted as the most beautiful garden in Africa, this 36 hectare garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is part of a nature reserve. Rolling lawns are ideal for picnics, and there are various restaurants and shops. In summer, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens hosts various open air concerts, from instrumental to rock concerts, where guests can bring along picnic baskets and enjoy music under the stars.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront is a not-to-be-missed day out. This shopping and entertainment complex is next to Cape Town Harbour, and offers countless restaurants and bars, markets, cinemas, retail outlets, art galleries, jewellers, and an aquarium to name a few. Many of the upmarket eateries spill onto the sidewalks that overlook the water, and you can sip on cocktails while you watch the passing parade, or hop onto one of the boats and take a guided tour of Robben Island.

Melkbosstrand

The seaside village of Melkbosstrand is a mere 15 minutes’ coastal drive from Atlantic Beach Villa and Sunset Beach. This village is a tourist attraction in and of itself, with stretches of beach where Melkbos Main beach merges into Van Riebeek Strand beach. There are many restaurants along the beach road, most notably Die Damhuis that offers seafood and traditional South African cuisine including Oxtail Stew and Boboti.

Durbanville Wine Valley

Cape Town is wine country, with various wine-producing areas to choose from. Durbanville Wine Valley is a 15 minute drive away, and further afield are the Constantia and Franschhoek Wine Routes (each around 50 minutes’ drive).

First Thursdays

Every first Thursday of the month, the streets of Cape Town come even more alive for ‘First Thursdays’ when most art galleries open their doors from 4pm – 9pm. Enjoy sipping wine whilst taking in some of the finest art Cape Town has to offer, and don’t forget to stop in at one of the many restaurants, burger bars and micro-breweries along the way.

Golf

With all the golf courses we have to offer, it’s no wonder that some of the finest golfers come from South Africa. Just next to Sunset Beach is the Milnerton Golf Course, an 18 hole links course with breath taking views of Table Mountain, the ocean, and the Milnerton Lagoon. Further up the coast (15 mins drive) is the Atlantic Beach Golf Course. There are many other great golf courses to visit in Cape Town: Westlake Golf Course (25 mins drive),Rondebosch (15 mins drive), and Pearl Valley Golf Club (50 mins drive), to name a few.
